Video of : Skipton and Craven Action for Disability

The Skipton and Craven Action for Disability was formed in 1981 which was the National Year of the Disabled, by Marjory Charlesworth, a Yorkshire lady.
Gathering a group of people together she encouraged them to follow the philosophy of
Seeing, Caring, Doing.

Skipton and Craven Action for Disability Our canal boat “Scad’s Endeavour” is available for day journeys by advanced
booking.

Some of the Advantages

• No overcrowding. Limit of 12 - we can handle up to 4 people in wheelchairs within the total of 12 passengers.

Two routes - GARGRAVE (Bottom lock) or KILDWICK Based on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Skipton, we have a specially constructed 53 foot canal boat based at Skipton General Hospital with access paths and a purpose
built mooring with ramps for easy embarkation of passengers with disabilities.
The windows in the cabin are large and low for maximum visibility and the galley and the bathroom are specially designed for wheelchair access.

The Marine and Coastguard Agency specify a maximum of 12 passengers (this includes carers) and we are limited to three wheelchairs although there is provision for passengers to be transferred. Refreshments are available.

“Scad’s Endeavour” is a day boat only and the usual trips are about 5 hours duration. The Skipper will individually assess special requests. Shorter evening trips are available subject to daylight hours. Split voyages where passengers change halfway at Kildwick can be arranged to accommodate groups of up to 24.
