  • I have just posted a school photograph of Grassington School in 1914 with the hope of finding more about the families of the children named - all but 3 are named & it obviously contains many local names. It is in 4 sections/posts.

It has been posted under the west riding section of www.rootschat.com

  • I am coming to Grassington for a week on 16th July, I have been several times before and am looking forward to it very much. Currently I am planning to join an organised walk from Burnsall on the Wed and am off to lunch at the Angel in Hetton on the Fri. Does anyone have any other suggestions for my week? I am a WI member from Somerset and like walking but not too far (4or 5 miles is good), indoor bowls - would like to try outdoor too, reading, visiting gardens, pilates, and generally joining in whatever is going on, Sue from Somerset

  • I am researching my wifes family Hops who were resident in Grassington during the early/mid 1700s

I was wondering if there is anyone in Grassington who would be so kind as to help me find out more about the family and their ancestors.

John Hops (c1720-1767) was a lead miner and he married Elizabeth (c1724-1756), they had two children Mary and Joseph, the latter attending Threshfield Grammar School before leaving Grassington to live in Leeds.

Unfortunately I am unable to visit local records offices and libraries as I live overseas in Crete and only occasionally visit the UK so I have to carry out as much research on the net as is possible.

If there is someone there who has some time available and who could assist me I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanking you in anticipation,

    Regards,

    Davis Davis

  • Is there a change that the rumours of Vicki and Andy's spilt are not valid and therefore are just vicious?

Also, is the runner up and her son now living in Grassington as well?

  • Love Thy Neighbour....

If, as previous threads suggest, the winning couple, Andy & Vicky, are no longer together (now theres a surprise....not!!) and not living in the house, what happens to the house now?! Do they sell it and reap the profits??

Why not rerun the semi-final and do a viewer vote for the new winners of the house? Listen up Channel 4/More4, youll get loads of ££s from phone votes, also please allow free webvotes, and then the couple who most won the nations hearts can take their well earned prize!!

  • Open Gardens National Directory

    http://www.opengardens.co.uk/

We are a couple of keen gardeners who have run Open Gardens in our village for a number of years and we are trying to develop a national Open Gardens website specifically aimed at town and village Open Gardens.

The website is in its infancy and we need organisers to add their Open Garden events. The site benefits event organisers and also those who attend Open Gardens weekends. For the humble town or village Open Gardens event, we think this is an exciting opportunity to get an event publicised for free.

If you are an Open Gardens organiser and feel this might be of interest, please get back to us or go ahead and add your forthcoming event - there is no charge.

    Kind regards,
    Rachel Slater

  • We all now know that North Yorkshire County Council are intent on Ignoring the 10,000 North Yorkshire Taxpayers whom recently signed & presented a Petition to them to say NO to the Construction of a Massive Incinerator & 280ft Toxic spewing Chimney which they propose to Have constructed in the middle of Rural North Yorkshire Farmland at Allerton Park & Castle by a Spanish Company AmeyCespa using a Finance Scheme called a P.F.I. (Public Finance Initiative), at a cost to the North Yorkshire Taxpayers of £1.4 Billion Pounds.

Well it appears that the Coalition have woken up to the fact that these P.F.I. Schemes are not all they were cracked up to be, in fact the Treasury now reckon that the Financial Wizardry that make up these P.F.I. Schemes are lousy value to the Taxpayer, and have just decided to look into them, led by the Treasury Minister Lord Sassoon, The campaign against P.F.I.s is led by Jesse Norman MP supported by 60 other cross party MPs

How can YOU....the North Yorkshire Taxpayer, put a Stop to this Incineration of your Tax £££...

    Heres How....Go to this Link >>> http://pfi-rebate.org/

Report your objections against NYCC / AmeyCespas Proposed P.F.I. Scheme viz Allerton Park Incinerator...

Its called People Power (very popular in the Middle East, at the moment), have YOUR say.

  • Having just read this snippet from the best 2011 TV viewing guide...I cant wait!!!

""Elsewhere in the schedules, The Outsiders looks to replace the reality TV void that the vanishing of Big Brother has saddled Channel 4 with.

It follows 12 families who crave life in a rural idyll as they compete to win a massive prize – a family home in the picture-perfect village of Grassington, in the Yorkshire Dales. Each week, two families arrive to live in the village for five days.

Competing against each other, they throw themselves into village life, doing all they can to persuade the people of Grassington that their family would be a genuine asset to the community and make worthy neighbours.

Now, if the production bods had picked normal people to take part, the series would come to an end after the first week, as the families concerned would simply rock up and go about being helpful and polite.

But understandably, they have decided to select a bunch of nutters which will make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable – unless you live in Grassington, that is.""

    Smile: youre on Telly!

  • Hello there! I spotted on your website that there is a horticultural society in Grassington that has speakers. I’m speaker finder for a horticultural society in North Leeds and am keen to swap details of speakers with other societies, as there are no official lists of speakers and the only way to find out about who’s available is from other societies. If you have a contact locally, could you please ask them if they’d like to get in touch with me?

    With thanks,
